Contemporary art in Venice
Private tour of Venice's most important modern and contemporary art galleries with a specialist tour guide.
This is an immersive tour into modern and contemporary art spanning a whole day lead by an expert tourist guide specialized in modern and contemporary art.
In the morning, you will visit Punta della Dogana and Palazzo Grassi, galleries owned by a famous French businessman, merchant and art collector Francois Pinault.
Punta della Dogana, the "centre of contemporary art", was once the maritime custom house and was built in 1677 in the point where the Gran Canal flows into St. Mark's basin, and was acquired by Pinault in 2007 and restored by famous architect Tadao Ando.
Palazzo Grassi is a palace overlooking the Gran Canal and was acquired in 2005 by Pinault who then created the "Punta della Dogana - Palazzo Grassi Francois Pinault foundation". With their permanent and temporary exhibitions, they present an opportunity to meet contemporary art in Venice.
In the afternoon - after a lunch break - you will continue to the (not to be missed) Peggy Guggenheim Collection which is situated in the former American collector's home, a wonderful palace overlooking the Grand Canal. The collection there is considered to be one of the most important in Europe for modern art, Cubism, Surrealism, Futurism and Abstract art. Finally a Venetian jewel, the International Gallery of Modern Art "Ca' Pesaro", which contains many works acquired from the Biennale exhibitions throughout the 20th century.
Please note: it is possible to divide the tour into two or more parts on two different days.
