| view pictures | view itinerary |
Three-hours walking tour and one-hour boat tour
You'll start walking tour with your expert Venice tourist guide in St Mark's Square where you will visit the doge's Palace, the old seat of the Venetian government. Your guide will tell you all about the history of Venice and will show you the magnificent halls of the Palace decorated by the most important artists of the Renaissance such as Tintoretto Veronese, Palma il Giovane, and the end you'll cross the Bridge of Sighs and will visit the old prisons. After the palace your guide will take you to a St Mark's Basilica (with your tourist guide no lines!)* where you will admire the fantastic golden Byzantine mosaics.
Then a nice boat (a water taxi) will be waiting for you and you'll start the Grand Canal boat tour. A unique experience, as Venice seen from the canals seems different and, in the boat, your private tourist guide will point out many things concerning past and present Venice, such as the Grand Canal as the main Venetian "road", Venice as an old trade centre, palaces, warehouses, and current environmental problems. Eventually the boat will leave you and your guide besides the Frari church in San Polo district, far away from the busy city centre. We'll spend the last hour walking around the charming characteristic Venetian alleys (calli and fondamente) where your guide will tell you about the Venetian style of life. The walking tour will finish beside the Rialto Bridge, in the heart of the city.
Option 2: Three-hour tour
Two-hour walking tour and one-hour by boat.
If you choose this option the tour is the same as in option 1, but without the Doge's Palace inside.
* Only when there is high water is it not possible to avoid the queues in St. Mark’s church
